Advanced Placement Exams

Procedure for Advanced Placement Exam Registration for May 2012 Exam

Writing AP ExamIf you are taking an AP course at a VSB high school:

Students wishing to write AP exams in May 2012 must register with the AP coordinator of their home school by early March 2012. The cost of registration is $60 per exam payable to your school.

If you are studying an AP course on your own:

Register Online for AP Exam (IE or Firefox required)

The VSB does offer some space for VSB and private school students challenging exams however this space is limited. Students who are challenging AP courses must register on-line through the VSB website when it opens in early February. The cost is $130 per exam payable by credit card only and is nonrefundable. The on-line registration will close when spaces become full and will close at the latest March 2, 2012. Once you register for an exam, the exam is ordered and no credit will be given if you change your mind and choose not to write the exam. Please be warned that registration spaces for some exams may fill quickly and you may find certain exams closed before March 2. A student will NOT be able to register to write an exam through the VSB past this deadline. There will be no late exam schedule as there is a district school closure during this time. Make the decision to write the exam before you register. The VSB reserves the right to not issue refunds and will not do so.

Please note: We are not able to accommodate the following AP challenge exams:

Studio  Art, Chinese Language and Culture,  Japanese Language and Culture, French, German, Spanish Literature, Latin  or Music Theory.  Human Geography will also not be offered as May 18 is a district closure day. No public school in the Vancouver District will be hosting any of these exams listed.

Be sure to record the date and time of the AP exam when you register on line and arrive at the library at David Thompson Secondary, 1755 E 55th Ave. no later than 20 minutes prior to the examination time. Picture identification is required to write the exam. If you have been given an AP Student Booklet at your home school you must bring it with you to the exam. You must use the same sticker booklet for all exams. If the first exam you are writing is at David Thompson, the sticker booklet will be provided at that time.

You should bring the following items to the exam room:

  • Several sharpened No. 2 pencils (with erasers) for completing multiple-choice answer sheets

  • Cell phones, digital cameras, personal digital assistants (PDAs), BlackBerry smartphones, Bluetooth-enabled devices, MP3 players, e-mail/messaging devices, or any other electronic or communication devices

You are required to arrive at the testing site no later than 20 minutes prior to your exam: Students may not be dismissed until an exam has officially ended; do not ask to leave early if you finish before the end of the exam. You are required to abide by the policies of both the College Board and David Thompson Secondary  during the exam period. Any misconduct will be reported and could jeopardize your AP Exam score.

Please contact the AP District Coordinator Karen Naso at knaso@vsb.bc.ca if you have any further questions. Do not contact David Thompson Secondary directly as you will be redirected to the VSB website.
