The Vancouver Board of Education is comprised of nine trustees, elected every four years at the same time as the mayor and city council. They work to ensure the VSB is the best it can be for all Vancouver students. Their efforts benefit everyone in Vancouver– as our students are tomorrow's citizens and leaders.
You’re invited to attend public board meetings. Meeting agendas are posted prior to the meeting. We also post meeting minutes and reports on our web site, so you can keep up with information about the school system and policy development that directs what happens in the classroom on a daily basis.
The board's work is divided among five standing committees to facilitate comprehensive discussion of school district matters. Click here for an overview of the Vancouver Board of Education Standing Committee process. Following each committee meeting, recommendations are forwarded to the full board for approval. All board and standing committee meetings are open to the public, except for in-camera sessions held in keeping with the School Act to discuss personnel or confidential financial or other matters.
The Standing Committees are:
Management Coordinating Committee (Committee I)
Committee I coordinates the work of the other four committees. The Chairperson of the Board is joined by the chairpersons of each of the other four Standing Committees, and non-voting parent and union association representatives as well as delegated senior management members.
Planning & Facilities Committee (Committee II)
This committee deals with facilities and building requirements. The four trustee members are joined by delegated senior management members and non-voting parent and union and association representatives.
Education & Student Services Committee (Committee III)
