Allen Blakey was first elected to the Vancouver Board of Education in 1999. He was re-elected in 2002, 2005 and 2008. His teaching career began in Cranbrook and Prince George and he later moved to Vancouver in 1959 to teach in Southlands, Carleton, Lord Nootka, Nightingale and Simon Fraser elementary schools. After a 35-year career in the classroom, Allen retired in 1992.
