ON-CALL SCHOOL & STUDENT SUPPORT A
The Vancouver Board of Education is seeking On-Call School & Student Support A (SSA) to support students with a variety of developmental and cognitive delays as well as intellectual, behavioural and/or physical challenges. An understanding and/or willingness to perform personal care is an asset.
On-Call SSAs will work in both elementary and secondary schools, as well as alternate programs within the district and must be available for work five (5) days a week, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Preference will be given to candidates who are available on a full-time basis.
Requirements:
- Completion of grade 12 plus up to 2 years post-secondary education and up to 3 years related experience.
- Formal training in child care/child development, behaviour management, and/or social sciences.
- Related experience working with students who are mentally/emotionally and/or physically challenged, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Sound knowledge of the issues and needs in educating students with intellectual, behavioural and/or physical challenges
- Sound knowledge of educational/developmental psychology and behaviour management
- Ability to effectively assist educators in behaviour management, individual skill development and the integration process
- Ability to provide personal assistance to meet students= requirements
- Ability to lift and position students of varying weights required
- Must possess or be willing to obtain an Occupational First Aid certificate and will be required to perform Occupational First Aid if assigned by the Principal/Supervisor. OFA attendants may, at the direction of Human Resources, be required to perform emergency coverage at other locations.
Hourly rate is $24.08 plus 18.2% or 12.2% in lieu of benefits, if applicable.
