On a sunny Wednesday this April, 170 intermediate students from Osler Elementary headed out onto the school field for a special track and field program. That morning they were led by Osler Principal Shannon Burton in a range of warm activities before they headed to six different stations including sprints, relay, high jump, long jump, strength training and shot put.

As part of its long range facilities planning VSB has released a preliminary list of 12 schools that might be considered for closure before the start of the 2017-18 school year. As required by VSB policy and conforming to the School Act, this list is being published to give at least two months’ notice to affected schools that extensive consultation will begin if the Board decides to consider those schools for closure.

The Supreme Court ruling last Thursday means the government will need to renegotiate with the teachers’ union about class size and composition. This will have implications for the VSB, but they won’t be fully understood for quite some time. Parents should be assured that no disruptions to their children’s education are expected.
