Celebrating our teachers on World Teachers' Day 2017

Schools & Students

The Official Trustee and Interim Superintendent have sent the following letter to VSB teachers to celebrate World Teachers' Day.

October 5, 2017

Dear teachers,

Today we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, an annual commemoration of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers that addresses teachers’ global rights and responsibilities. We salute all the teachers and educators in the Vancouver School Board today for their dedication and caring that gives our students the best start in life.

World Teachers' Day is observed in more than 100 countries. In Canada, the Canadian Teachers’ Federation is highlighting the theme of caring and safe schools this year.

At VSB, we value all our teachers and the incredibly important role they play in molding caring and respectful students who are better prepared to take their place in an inclusive, multi-cultural, civil Canadian society. The value of what you bring to your classrooms, your students and your schools cannot be understated. Our district has a top notch educational system, and it is thanks in large part to you that we continue this reputation.

On behalf of all the students, parents, and staff at VSB, we take the opportunity today on World Teachers’ Day to celebrate you, our teachers.

Sincerely,

John Lewis, Interim Superintendent

Dianne Turner, Official Trustee
