Eric Hamber Secondary’s dragon boat team, Eternal Dragon, won five gold medals, one silver, and one bronze in the Under-16, Under-18, and Under-24 divisions at the Canadian National Dragon Boat Championships. They also returned from Welland, Ontario, this summer with the overall Junior National Champion title for the second year in a row.

All of the Hamber team’s boats have now qualified for next July's Club Crew World Championships in Szeged, Hungary. Many of the team’s members are accustomed to international competition – 15 Eric Hamber Under-16 and Under-18 paddlers helped power Team Canada to seven gold medals, three silvers, and four bronzes at the 2017 World Championships in Divonne-les-Bains, France, this summer. The Under-16 and Under-18 team also won the Junior World Cup.

Members of Eternal Dragon – one of the longest running junior teams in the world –come from grades 8 to 12 and paddle year round. “We offer programming that's accessible for everyone, but we also offer programming that allows youth to shine at the highest levels of the sport,” enthuses team coach Dominic Lai, a Hamber alumnus.
