Kerrisdale Elementary School Marks Remembrance Day with Tapestry of Music and Theatre
Kerrisdale Elementary School observed Remembrance Day with an unforgettable ceremony filled with music, drama and poetry. In a gymnasium transformed to look like a cemetery, about 40 students in Grades 4 to 7 paid tribute to Canada’s soldiers in a moving montage of signing, theatre and the spoken word. Alternating between individual readings and choral singing, the ceremony appealed to both parents and students alike.
It also came with an important message about the need to remember the sacrifices made by soldiers. Driving home the point that soldiers were once children too, the ceremony helped children connect with the concept of war and loss. Kerrisdale is becoming well-known for its rich and varied Remembrance Day ceremonies, which continue to attract parents and visitors beyond the school.
