Road conditions limit bus service
Updated at 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 – The Vancouver school district has been notified by its bus contractor, Cardinal Transportation, that students who require a wheelchair ramp to embark and disembark from school buses will not be picked up on Thursday, January 8, 2009.
Due to road conditions, Cardinal Transportation will not be operating at full capacity tomorrow. Buses equipped with wheelchair ramps cannot safely lower the ramps and load handicapped students as long as snow remains piled up at the edges of Vancouver streets. As a result, students who require use of the ramp cannot be picked up.
Cardinal will continue to operate its normal routes, but buses may not be entering side streets that remain unplowed by city crews. Pick-ups will instead occur on the nearest main street to a student's home.
Parents will be contacted by Cardinal drivers to confirm whether their children's transportation will be affected by the road conditions, and if an alternate pickup location is available.
The Vancouver school district is continuing to monitor weather and road conditions.
Individuals should check the VSB website at http://www.vsb.bc.ca/ on a regular basis for possible updates.
