Schools are open, but bus service disrupted
Vancouver, B.C. (Monday, Jan. 5, 2009) -- All schools and Vancouver School Board worksites will be open today. All public meetings, classes and programs will be running, including before- and after-school care programs and night school courses.
However, due to current road conditions, Cardinal Transportation, which provides bus service for the Vancouver school district, will not be operating at full capacity today.
Buses equipped with wheelchair ramps are not able to safely lower the ramps while snow remains piled up at the edges of Vancouver streets. As a result, students with handicaps who require use of the ramp cannot be picked up.
Cardinal will continue to operate its normal routes, buses will not be entering the sides streets. Pick-ups will instead occur on the nearest main street to a student's home.
Parents will be contacted by Cardinal drivers this morning to confirm whether their children's transportation will be affected by the road conditions, and if an alternate pickup location is available.
The Vancouver school district is continuing to monitor weather and road conditions.
Individuals should check the VSB website at www.vsb.bc.ca on a regular basis for possible updates
