UBC area schools project awaits government approval

Schools & Students

Vancouver, B.C. – (February 18, 2009) – Vancouver’s Board of Education is hopeful it will soon receive the government approval it needs in order to pass the capital project bylaw for new secondary and elementary school facilities within the University Hill Secondary School catchment area.

The University of B.C. area schools project would combine physical facilities and educational resources to fulfill the learning needs of students in the community.

The capital project is currently before government awaiting approval. Ministry of Education officials have indicated that the ministry supports the project in principle.

The project, which enjoys a high degree of public support, would see the school district convert and expand the vacant National Research Council (NRC) building for a secondary school and construct a new elementary school on the current site of University Hill Secondary School.

The school district looks forward to its continued partnership with UBC and the creation of an educational framework that will accommodate a continuum of learning and development from early childhood to adulthood within the University Hill family of schools.
