Vancouver schools will remain open during Olympic Games

Vancouver, B.C. – (February 16, 2009) – Vancouver’s Board of Education will keep all its schools open during the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This evening, Trustees approved the following motions:

1. That the Vancouver school district retain the standard school calendar during the 2009-10 school year, thereby ensuring that all schools are in session during the 2010 Olympic Games as well as the majority of Paralympic Games dates.
2. That the VSB initiate meetings with Metro-area school districts, TransLink, VANOC, the City of Vancouver, and provincial government for the purpose of discussing the development of a sustainable transportation strategy that will facilitate student and employee travel to school sites during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
