VSB advocates to Minister of Education on recruitment and retention

Board & Committees, Media Release

The Vancouver Board of Education sent a letter to the Minister of Education last Friday about recruitment and retention challenges. This letter details key recruitment strategies initiated in the district and presents suggestions to the Minister's Teacher Recruitment and Retention Task Force.  It reflects results of a focus group held recently with VSB staff, trustees, and representatives from employee groups representing teachers, administrators and support staff.

"Our board is concerned about the impact of recruitment and retention challenges on our students, and we are pleased with the collaborative efforts in our district to effectively advocate for our students" says chair Janet Fraser.  "We are interested in working with the Ministry of Education to identify timely options to address the very real teacher and education assistant recruitment and retention challenges facing Vancouver."
