VSB Offers Big Discounts for Facility Rentals

The community already makes extensive use of Vancouver School Board space every year, with over 4,000 rental contracts per year for fields, gymnasiums, auditoriums, classrooms and other kinds of spaces in our 109 schools. Now a new pilot program is being implemented with an aim to make Board rentals even more accessible to the community.
The cost to rent VSB space on weekends has always been higher than on weekdays, which has resulted in reduced weekend use. In order to increase access to the community, the VSB Rentals department has instituted a new pilot project which launched this past Saturday January 7 and runs until Saturday June 9 at select locations. For the duration of the pilot project, the weekend surcharge is being reduced from $77.30 per hour to $25.00 per hour, a reduction of $52.30 per hour (before HST).
The impact on some sample spaces on Saturdays (before HST and contract fee) is as follows:
Auditoriums/Theatres drop from $222.20 per hour to $169.90 per hour.
Secondary Gymnasiums drop from $124.90 per hour to $72.60 per hour.
Classrooms drop from $90.70 per hour to $38.40 per hour.
The VSB has already signed up one new large group at these rates. The Vancouver Women’s Floor Hockey League which has been without a place to play for a number of months due to renovations at the facility that was their home for the past 16 years, is being restarted on January 14th with 7 hours of good Canadian fun every Saturday.
