VSB United Way Campaign Kick Off a Success

Board & Committees, Schools & Students

The annual United Way Pancake Breakfast has been a celebrated tradition for more than a decade at the Vancouver Board of Education (VBE). This year, like years past, employees from all over the district attended the event, which signals the start of the campaign.

Staff from the Maintenance Facility generously donated their time and effort to keeping this event an ongoing tradition at the Education Centre.

Senior Management has become a part of this tradition by “flipping pancakes” and serving food to attendees. The event also provides an opportunity for employees across the district to take a break from the morning rigors and meet with Senior Management and colleagues for a very good cause.

"Our staff's donations have helped to support programs that make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families. Additionally, the Vancouver Board of Education has benefited from United Way funds, which support initiatives and programs for our students," said Superintendent Steve Cardwell. "Annual fundraising events have also provided an opportunity to bring employees across the district together, which is important for creating a healthy and supportive culture."

The annual United Way Campaign has become an ingrained part of the VSB culture with staff across the district participating in events, campaigning, and giving back to the community with their donations.

This year’s campaign will run from November 16 to December 02 starting with the Pancake Breakfast at the Education Centre on November 16 and ending with the BBQ at the VBE Workshop on December 02. A special IUOE and Operations Breakfast will also be taking place this year on December 29 at Churchill Secondary School.
