Under the School Act, the Board of School Trustees (the “Board”) is required to appoint a person as Secretary-Treasurer of the Board and arrange for the bonding of the Secretary-Treasurer in an amount the Board considers adequate.  No trustee may be appointed Secretary-Treasurer of the Board. 

The Secretary-Treasurer of the Board is its corporate financial officer who is responsible for complying with the accounting and administrative procedures prescribed by the Minister of Education.  The Secretary-Treasurer is also responsible for keeping a record of Board proceedings and for carrying out any other tasks the Board may properly prescribe in relation to its corporate affairs.  The Secretary-Treasurer is empowered by law to carry out all the duties assigned to a Secretary-Treasurer under the School Act and Regulation

NoteIn the absence of the Secretary-Treasurer, the Controller will serve as Acting Secretary-Treasurer of the Board. (Adopted 1981 March 16)
