BFG: Policy Review and Evaluation

B: Board Governance and Operations

In an effort to keep its written policies and regulations up to date so that they may be used consistently as a basis for Board decision and administrative action, the Board of School Trustees (the “Board”) will review its policies continually.

To do so, the Board must rely on the senior management, school staff, parents, and the community to provide it with evaluations of how well the Board's policies are working.  The Superintendent of Schools is given the continuing commission of gathering such information and bringing to the Board's attention all policies that are out of date or, for any other reason, appear to need revision.

The Board also directs the Secretary-Treasurer to recall all policy manuals periodically for updating and possible Board review.

Amendments of By-Laws of the Board

By-law No. 1, Section VI, subsection 1 states:

“No amendment to the by-laws of the Board shall be made unless due notice thereof, in writing, setting forth the proposed amendment, shall have been given at a meeting previous to that at which the same comes up for consideration, and a majority of the members are present at the time of the meeting vote therefor.”

Amendments of Policies

Policies may be changed or rescinded by majority vote of members present and voting at an official Board meeting, provided that written notice of the motion to rescind or change shall have been given to trustees in advance of the meeting, unless the Chairperson permits otherwise, especially in an emergency (see code BF Board Policy Development).
