Trustee Indemnity

In accordance with the School Act and the regulations, the Board of School Trustees (the Board”) has authorized annual indemnities to each trustee of $20,0311, the Vice-Chairperson's indemnity to be the same as each trustee and the Chairperson's indemnity to be $21,7001.  The annual indemnity will be adjusted on September 01 of each year, according to the increase in the Vancouver consumer price index.

Trustee Expenses

The Board, under the School Act Section 71, may: “...authorize annually the payment of a reasonable allowance for expenses necessarily incurred by trustees in the discharge of their duties.”

Accordingly, it is the policy of the Board to pay the cost of accommodation and economy air fare, verified by receipts, plus a per-diem allowance at a rate set by the Board to cover meals and miscellaneous expenses.²  Car mileage expenses are not eligible for reimbursement.

It is the practice of the Board to give annual approval to total trustee expenses for the current year, rather than approve expense claims instance by instance.

²Note: The rate currently approved by the Board (1982) is $50 per diem for meals and miscellaneous expenses.
