Rental Uses

  • Sports/Recreation:(Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball Games, Fitness, Gymnastics etc.)
  • Meetings and Lectures
  • Education & Leisure Activity Programs
  • Filming
  • Child Care Programs
  • Cultural Events

Agreement

  • All groups, regardless of their hours of operation, are required to have a rental agreement with the Board of School Trustees (the “Board”), arranged through the Rentals Section.

Approval Process

  • Current users continue to have right of first refusal.  Where there is more than one applicant, the Rentals Clerk reserves the right to assign on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Cancellation of Rental Agreement

  • Rental costs may be charged for cancellation with less than two weeks notice.

Conditions, Obligations, Responsibilities

  • Individuals or groups renting school facilities must comply with all Board and City policies, by-laws and regulations.  These include  not smoking or drinking on school grounds, using only fire proof props, not exceeding the seating capacity, and keeping exits clear.
  • All persons or groups renting school facilities are required to provide adequate supervision of users.  Any damage done to the facility is the responsibility of the user group.
  • The Board will not be responsible for the loss or damage to any property left on school premises.
  • All facilities are rented on an as-is basis.  This applies to suitability, condition, and services.
  • Persons or groups using the school must obey all reasonable directions of the  Board employee in charge of the school building at the time.
  • All persons leasing school facilities are required to agree to hold the Board harmless from all and any liability resulting from bodily injury, damage to property, and damage from fire.
  • Individuals or organizations who wish to rent  Board facilities or grounds must include in their advertising the fact that the rental of Vancouver public school facilities does not necessarily constitute Board support for the program.
  • Unless approved by the Board and subject to provincial regulations, consumption of liquor on any portion of school premises is prohibited.

Priority for the Use of Facilities

  • Regular school/curricular and extra-curricular activities for all time periods on days when school is in session have priority.  Night school centres are exempt.

Rental Rates

  • Rental costs are calculated to include the recovery of short and long term capital and operating costs.  Administration includes the district personnel costs associated with the rental of facilities and grounds.  It may also include associated administrative costs and revenues generated to support school programs.
