Term of Appointment

Principal and Vice-Principal

  • Following the recruitment and selection of principals and vice-principals pursuant to Board of School Trustees (the “Board”) Policy GCC/GCD-2, these administrative officers shall be appointed by term contract and assigned or reassigned to various schools at the Board's discretion. 
  • The initial term of appointment as a principal or vice-principal shall be for a term of two (2) years. 
  • In the second year of the initial term, a report shall be filed by the associate superintendent - area on the work of the principal or vice-principal. 
  • If the above report affirms the satisfactory performance of the principal or vice-principal, it shall also contain a recommendation for a renewal of the appointment for a term of five (5) years. 
  • Each subsequent recommendation for renewal, following a written report on the work of the principal or vice-principal, shall be for a further five (5) year term. 
  • The Board may, upon the recommendation of the Associate Superintendent - Human Resources, and after consultation with the administrator, provide for a contract of duration other than those specified above.  Such a contract will be affected only for individual and extraordinary circumstances
