TEACHERS
Recruitment and Posting of Vacancies
It is the task of the Associate Superintendent - Human Resources , with the assistance of his/her administrative staff, to determine the personnel needs of the school system and the individual schools, and to locate suitable candidates to recommend for employment.
Recruitment procedures will follow the personnel practices for posting and filling vacancies, in accordance with the Vancouver Teachers’ Federation (VTF) Collective Agreement.
Applications and Screening
Applications for employment may be obtained from and returned to the Human Resources Division.
Selection and Appointment
The Associate Superintendent - Human Resources, or designate, shall ensure that all persons have the ability to perform the duties established for the particular position and meet certification requirements and qualifications of the School Act and the collective agreement.
In addition, the Board of School Trustees (the “Board”) has approved sets of specific qualifications and requirements for teacher-librarians; Learning Assistance Centre and Skills Development Centre teachers (1981 May 19); counsellors; psychologists; and English as a Second Language (ESL), English Language Support Teacher (ELST) and English Learning Centre (ELC) teachers. The most suitable applicant will be selected for each position, regardless of race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, place of origin, age, marital status, disabilities, or health status (see policy GBA).
Acceptance of Offer
Any verbal offer of appointment to a teacher shall be accepted or rejected within 48 hours (see GCB - Professional Staff Contracts and Compensation Plans). Once the verbal offer has been accepted, a written offer will be prepared.
