TEACHERS

In staffing its schools, the Board of School Trustees (the “Board”) has consistently sought to obtain the most suitable teachers available.  High academic achievement and good (student) teaching reports, although prime requisites, are not the only criteria for hiring.  In addition to these two types of qualifications, the Board is also seeking teachers who:

• like children, will emphasize the personal worth of each student, and help him/her develop a positive self-concept; 
• understand the implications of child development concepts for teaching/learning and evaluation; 
• will help each student become competent in the basic and diverse skills essential to living in the world, particularly those of communication, use of numbers, creative thought, and decision-making; 
• will treat students, parents, and colleagues in friendly, considerate ways; 
• are competent in their teaching field and have a range of expertise; 
• will accept a commitment for professional development; 
• are able to adapt to new situations; 
• can organize and carry out individualized programs for their students; 
• use group activity and co-operative learning techniques; 
• have a working knowledge of media.
