GCPA: Reduction in Professional Staff Work Force
Where the Board of School Trustees (the “Board”) finds it necessary to terminate the appointment of an employee declared surplus to the needs of the district, such termination shall be in accordance with the provisions of Article 14 of the Vancouver Teachers’ Federation (VTF) Collective Agreement and shall be effective at the end of the school term in which notice of termination is given. The Board shall give each employee a minimum of thirty (30) days’ notice in writing, containing the reason for the layoff.
The employees to be retained on the staff of the district shall be those who have the greatest seniority, provided that they possess the necessary qualifications as defined in Article 14, D., Definitions of Qualifications, for the positions available.
In carrying out any reduction in force, the Board shall adhere to the Collective Agreement between the Board and VTF, Article 14 - Layoff, Severance, and Recall (including Principle of Security, Definition of Seniority, Definition of Qualifications, Security of Employment Based on Seniority and Qualifications, Employees’ Right to Recall, Employee Seniority Lists, Sick Leave, Benefits, Severance Pay and Appeal Procedure).
