GDBD: Support Staff Leaves and Absences

The Board of School Trustees (the “Board”) will provide a plan for leaves and absences designed to help members of the school district's support staff maintain their physical health and take care of necessary and important personal and professional obligations. 

The types of leaves granted by the Board will include illness or injury leave; maternity leave; bereavement leave; union business leave; personal leave; educational leave; and leave for court and jury duty.  The specific terms under which such leaves may be granted and the specific leave entitlements for various groups of personnel shall be as negotiated between the Board and the employee unions, as set forth in negotiated contracts currently in force. 

Those employees not covered by a negotiated contract shall be entitled to leave provisions, as determined in their individual contracts with the Board. 

The Associate Superintendent - Human Resources is charged with the administration of leaves for all personnel for all purposes. 

Requests for particular types of leaves, either short-term or long-term, that are not covered by School Act, School Regulation, or contractual requirements may, at the discretion of the Associate Superintendent - Human Resources, be brought before the Superintendent of Schools for decision or for presentation to the Board for a final ruling.
