GDG: Support Staff Probation and Tenure
A new support staff member, or a permanent support staff member appointed to a new position, will serve a probationary or trial period of a duration specified in the applicable negotiated contract or, if no contract applies, as determined at the time the probationary appointment is made. If the probationary or trial period is completed satisfactorily, the employee becomes a permanent employee in that position.
During the probationary period, an employee will be evaluated by his/her supervisor, and his/her performance in the job and the standards to be met will be clearly discussed with him/her. At any time during the probationary or trial period, the employee may be terminated if it can be satisfactorily shown that the employee is unsuitable for permanent appointment in the position.
