Classification:
G: Personnel
Code:
GDO

When support staff vacancies are to be filled, preference will be given to qualified applicants within the school system, provided their qualifications (proven and potential ability, training, experience, and personal characteristics) are equal to or greater than those of other applicants and that, all factors considered, they are the most suitable candidate for the position subject to provisions of the appropriate negotiated agreement.

Promotions will be without regard to race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, political belief, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, or *age.

An employee promoted to a new position will receive at least one formal performance review within the first few months on the job.  The supervisor or school administrator will discuss the review(s) with the employee, provide the employee with a copy of the record of each performance review, and forward a copy to be maintained in the Human Resources division.  During or at the completion of the probation period as defined by the collective agreement or terms of appointment, the employee will be notified of continued employment in his/her new position or reinstatement in his/her former one.

*unless based on a bona fide occupational requirement.
