IGBJ-E-2 A Checklist for Operators to Establish A Heritage Language Program (HLP) in Schools
- Review heritage language program (HLP) information package that is available from the Rentals Section, Education Centre, 1580 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C. V6J 5K8.
- Establish a non-profit society to operate the HLP.
- Identify a school location and propose a program option (after school, evening, or weekend) for the HLP.
- Establish a governing board consisting of volunteers for the HLP.
- Develop a proposed annual budget for the HLP. Obtain approval of annual budget from the governing board.
- Seek support of the school administration (or other appropriate Board representative; e.g., community school co-ordinator, Continuing Education Services).
- Secure liability insurance, Workers= Compensation Board (WCB) coverage, and any other required licensing and permits for the HLP and HLP staff.
- Complete an Application Form for Heritage Language Programs in Vancouver Schools.
- Obtain approval for an annual board rental agreement for use of district facilities. HLP application forms and Board rental agreements are only valid for a maximum period of one school year and must be applied for annually.
