IGCA: Summer School

I: Instructional

The Board of School Trustees (the “Board”) is empowered, but not obliged, to establish summer schools.  If the Board decides to offer summer instruction, it shall do so by annual resolution, and the summer programs shall be administered, staffed, conducted, and reported in accordance with the requirements of the School Act, the Regulations, and Board policies and practices.

It is the practice of the Board to offer a variety of summer programs in subjects included in the provincial curriculum, as well as in subjects not normally part of that curriculum.  Thus, the Board offers remedial, secondary completion, and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs; programs for children with special needs; a Summer Centre for the Arts; programs for gifted children; orientation programs for recently landed immigrant children; and programs for inner city school children.  The program is administered by the Director of Community Education Services.
