JB: Educational Opportunities
The Board of School Trustees (the “Board”) believes in equal opportunity and equal access to the best possible education in a supportive, positive, and challenging environment. The Board is committed to its policy of non-discrimination on the basis of race, colour, ancestry, ethnic origin, religion, socio-economic status, gender, sexual orientation, political beliefs, physical or mental ability. To this end, the Board has directed its management staff and school administrators to ensure that there are no discriminatory practices in the school system .
All educational and recreational facilities, courses, programs, activities, classes, and clubs under the jurisdiction of the Vancouver school district are open to all students, unless reasonable cause exists to make such arrangements impractical or inappropriate. In addition, all students will be encouraged to consider the possibilities of all occupational fields, regardless of career stereotypes.
The criteria for selection of instructional resources will be governed by district policy (IIA) to ensure that stereotyping and discrimination are avoided. Staff development programs will provide opportunities for employees to enhance their sensitivity and competence in working effectively with a diverse student population.
