
How do I apply for a job at the Vancouver Board of Education?Send or deliver a personal resume, or visit the Education Centre and complete an application form specifying what type of work you are looking for and qualified for. Resumes or application forms should be sent or delivered to the Human Resources Division, Vancouver Board of Education, 1580 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C. V6J 5K8. Often prospective employees will first apply to be an "on-call" employee and wait until a suitable vacancy is available. Please note that the VSB does not hire Trade Workers as these employees are dispatched by their various trade unions.

Can I fax an application?We do not accept faxes.

Will I receive a response after submitting an application or resume?Only those applicants selected for interviews will be contacted/acknowledged.

How do I find out about vacancies?Many specific jobs are advertised in local newspapers or on the VSB website. Postings can also be viewed at the Education Centre at 1580 West Broadway (West Broadway between Granville & Fir Streets) or at any school/work location.

What is an "on-call" employee?- called when work is available, generally substituting for an absent employee or temporary assignment
- could be assigned to work at any school or work location in Vancouver
- there is no guarantee of work every day, though we attempt to keep people regularly employed
- permanent positions may generally be filled by employees on the on-call list

Does everyone get July and August off?Our employees who work directly with students such as playground supervisors, cafeteria workers, and student support workers only work when school is in session. Seasonal workers for Grounds Maintenance work the summer growing season only. Other workers are employed year round.

Are these union jobs?If you accept one of the positions listed above you will be expected to join the appropriate union. There are several different unions representing employees. Most positions are union positions.
