Career Education - Employers
Student Group:
An Open Invitation to Employers
Our Career Preparations Program is inviting employers of all businesses to help our students have an experience of a lifetime. We’d like to offer you the chance to open doors of opportunity by hosting our students at your workplace. Students ranging from ages 16-18 want to pursue their interests with hands-on work experience.
Our students work usually one week at a time, completing tasks that your business requires. Although our students are not paid, every student you host is marked and given a grade based on their performance.
All students are covered by the Workers Compensation Board through the Ministry of Education with the Work Education Agreement. Students learn to respect all worksite policies and important issues, such as confidentiality. More information about the process of application can be found in the Placement Process.
Employers such as you, could benefit through opportunities by providing leadership in the development, training and education of the future workforce. Please take a few moments to complete our Employer Reply and mail or fax it back to our office (604) 713-5044.
The Placement Process
Once you have signed up as an employer you may contact us and request a student when you need one, and we will do our best to find you a suitable match.
As well, during the school year you may receive a call from a staff member either at the district office or from one of our secondary schools requesting to place a student with you.
What happens next?
When we have found a suitable student for you the following generally happens:
- A confirmation letter will be sent to you providing specific details about the student and the placement dates.
- The student will call you to set up an interview (at least one week before the placement).
- During the interview, you will be asked to sign a Work Education Agreement and keep a copy for your records.
- The work experience will begin at the arranged time.
- A supervising teacher will contact you to arrange a visit to the worksite during the students placement.
- You will be asked to complete an evaluation, called the Career Preparation Programs Report on Work Experience, on the student's performance during their work experience.
