The Garibaldi Home Learners’ Program provides choice and flexibility for children and parents to partner with the public education system in designing learning experiences that are unique to every family.

Mission Statement
The Garibaldi Home Learners’ Program provides choice and flexibility for children and parents to partner with the public education system in designing learning experiences that are unique to every family.  The Garibaldi Home Learners’ Program is a collaborative, inclusive community of learning and support.

Core Beliefs
Honouring different home learning approaches the Garibaldi Home Learners’ Program supports and encourages child-centered learning.  With the child at the centre, the parents, student and teacher work as equal partners in each child’s learning experience. We believe that each child’s is unique and that students and families need to be supported in their learning in ways that take into account the needs and situations of each child.

Program Description
The Home Learners’ Program is open to students from Kindergarten to Grade 7.  In a three-way collaboration between student, parents and teacher, each student develops and follows a Student Learning Plan for the year which ensures students meet the learning goals for each grade level as set forth by the Ministry of Education.

Students are offered optional programming in peer groupings of Kindergarten and Grade 1’s on Monday and Wednesday mornings, or Grades 2 through Grades 7 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Students in our programs may register in and attend fully or partially.  The school year is divided into three semesters with various programs being offered each semester.  Students who chose to stay full mornings also participate in their own outdoor play time for 15 minutes each day.

Most programming is multi-aged with emphasis on experiential, hands on, self-discovery and problem-based learning.  Field trips and special programming by community visitors and mentors form a large portion of the programming.

Students are also welcome to socialize and participate with students in the regular K-4 program at Garibaldi through whole-school assemblies, events, field trips, concerts and/or specialty programs that are held throughout the year.
