The School Act permits parents to provide an educational program for their children at home.

The School Act permits parents to provide an educational program for their children at home.

Parents must register homeschooled children at one of the following schools in the province by September 30th each year:

Note: Children in Grades 10, 11, or 12 may enrol in a distributed learning course offered by a public or independent distributed learning school, as well as being registered as a homeschooler

The Home Schooler can borrow text books from the school for a deposit if text books are part of instruction and available.  At the discretion of the school, home school students can request access to the school library with their parent in attendance in elementary school.  However, the Home Schooler is not entitled to attend part-time classes or participate in any school activity.  Testing can be provided at a fee for service.

Often the term "Home Schooling" is confused with "Distance Education". If parents wish to follow the provincial curriculum, in a more structured educational program delivery, they should contact the Vancouver Learning Network located at John Oliver Secondary School at (604)713-5520.

More detailed information on Home Schooling can be obtained from the Ministry of Education website.

There is a Home Learners program at Beaconsfield Elementary.  For more information check this website.
