The Resource Centre for Students with Physical Disabilities is for students who have orthopaedic or neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinabifida and muscular dystrophy.

The Resource Centre for Students with Physical Disabilities is for students who have orthopaedic or neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinabifida and muscular dystrophy. The Centre provides a base for students who are often integrated in academic or elective classes. The teacher offers remedial academic assistance. Supported regular class participation should be a realistic goal for students referred to this program.

Curriculum emphasis:

  • developing adaptations or modifications of curriculum materials and instructional techniques
  • providing counselling support for personal or social concerns
  • assisting with academic remediation
  • providing adaptive physical education

 

STUDENT PROFILE

Students appropriate for  placement in this program when they meet Ministry criteria for Physically Dependent with Multiple Needs (A) or Physical Disabilities/Chronic Health (D).

 

SELECTION SCREENING

Referrals to this program are submitted to the Screening Committee.

 

DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED

□ Medical Reports

□ Psychological/Neuro-psychological assessment (if appropriate)

□ IEP

□ Physiotherapy Report/Occupational Therapy Report

□ School Based Team minutes

 

EXIT CRITERIA

Placements are reviewed on a regular basis and if a change in placement is recommended, a referral is submitted to the Screening Committee.

Grades 8 to 12 (13 - 19 years of age)

Program capacity is 10 students

4 SSAs
