This program provides students who have left secondary school with opportunities for individualized, self-paced learning in a structured yet flexible program. There is a strong emphasis on personal responsibility, respect and a shared “social contract” of beliefs and agreements.

Program Description: 

This program provides students who have left secondary school with opportunities for individualized, self-paced learning in a structured yet flexible program. There is a strong emphasis on personal responsibility, respect and a shared “social contract” of beliefs and agreements.  The program operates on a semester system from mid September to January and February to June.  The hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

 

Student Profile:

The South Hill Youth Program is for youth aged 16-18 who:

  • were not successful in the regular or alternative secondary school due to attendance, lifestyle or family issues;
  • are working at or above a Grade 10 level; 
  • are 16 years of age as of July 1st of the current school year.

 

Students whose educational background requires specialized assistance are not suitable for the program as support services available through the K-12 system are not available in Adult Education programs.

 

Academic Goal:

Students work towards high school completion.  Courses include core grade 10 to 12 subjects and a variety of electives. 

 

Application Process:

To register, all potential students are required to phone and make an appointment with an Academic Youth Program Advisor.  The Academic Advisor will help develop a Graduation Plan with you.  Students are asked to bring all high school records (within 3 years), citizenship information that shows you are a landed immigrant or a Canadian citizen and photo ID to the appointment.  If you do not have proper school records (within the last 3 years) at a Canadian high school, they you will be required to write an assessment to determine your academic level.
