Van Tech Flex Humanities
The Vancouver Technical Secondary Flex Humanities students will study integrated curricula of Humanities, Fine Arts, and Modern Languages. The degree of integration will vary over time and subject. The Humanities portion is an integrated study of history, geography, philosophy, and classical literature.
The Flex Humanities Program provides a supportive, stimulating, and challenging environment for learners who have demonstrated they are motivated to succeed. Students are encouraged to develop their intellectual skills through a curriculum which is focused on the learner and emphasizes critical thinking skills, problem-solving, and integration of course content. Social responsibility is fostered within a secure environment that promotes the self-confidence needed by students who assume leadership roles.
Flex Humanities has been designed to meet the needs of above average ability students in grades 8, 9, and 10 who are interested in working with other self-motivated students. The Flex Humanities program encourages students to pursue topics which have personal and social relevance. This will include involvement in Free the Children. Within the program there is a commitment to peer mentoring, peer tutoring and the development of public speaking skills with all students working together collaboratively in a dynamic learning environment.
Flex Humanities is, above all else, a program for students who wish to develop to their fullest academic and emotional potential as individuals while engaging themselves as members of an altruistic society.
