VLN Elementary program (K-7 at Garibaldi Annex)
Elementary students at VLN-E (Garibaldi Annex) may enroll in our full correspondence program or as a home-schooling student. Correspondence assignments are typically submitted by mail. Students maintain contact with teachers and with each other through personal email, telephone, by visiting the VLN-E office and by participating in our monthly field trips and activities. VLN-E offers some optional online courses for students interested in online learning. Online course offerings will be determined by individual VLN-E teachers depending on the level of interest and ability of students.
What type of program is right for you? VLN-E teachers work in close consultation with parents and students to address each individual learner's needs. During registration, a VLN-E teacher will meet with your family to discuss each student's special interests, travel plans, academic skills and other educational needs and abilities. If needed, VLN-E teachers may contact a student's previous school in order to develop a customised program or to facilitate modifications of our standard VLN-E program materials.
Once a Student Learning Plan is determined, learning materials may be made available in the John Oliver High School VLN Book room, where Barry Thompson and Cynthia Benedict will provide you with a package of textbooks, workbooks and other resources that your teacher has assigned for you.
For further information about grade level programs, teacher web sites and the special activities and services available from the VLN-E please review this website or contact our office.
