The Long Range Facilities Plan is a framework to guide facilities planning throughout the District.
The Plan is required by the Ministry of Education to show how the District manages facilities in an effective, economic and efficient way in support of educational goals and as well as informing the annual submission of a five-year capital plan. Through the LRFP the District aims to improve the overall safety and quality of schools for Vancouver students today and in the future, including:
- Maximize operating funds directed for student programs and services by recommending ways to reduce deferred maintenance costs.
- Provide safe schools that best serve the needs of students in their communities.
- Balance enrolment demand with available space and reduce surplus capacity
- Effectively manage capital assets

Revised LRFP Guidelines
District staff, based on data and previous engagement with the public and stakeholder groups and based on enrolment statistics, building conditions and other considerations, drafted the LRFP with 17 recommendations for Board consideration.
- Several key areas are covered within the LRFP including enrolment forecasts, facility condition, seismic mitigation, the development of a Capital Asset Management Plan, and reduction of capacity.
- The draft LFRP is intended to guide the prioritization of capital projects to ensure students are in seismically-safe facilities that provide modern learning environments now and in the future.
The draft Long Range Facilities Plan was presented for Board approval in April, 2019.

Your input matters to us!
In addition to hearing from members of school communities at meetings of the Facilities Planning Committee and via email (LRFP@vsb.bc.ca), two public information sessions will take place to gain further feedback about the draft Plan and it’s 17 recommendations. At these the sessions staff will be available to answer questions and trustees will have small group discussions with attendees.
- Thursday, April 11 from 6-8 p.m. at Kitsilano Secondary School, 2706 Trafalgar Street
- Tuesday, April 16 from 6-8 p.m. at Vancouver Technical Secondary School, 2600 East Broadway
If you are unable to attend an information session, you can still have your say! The information boards from the public information sessions are available here and you will be able to give your feedback through a survey (govsb.ca/LRFP-2019-feedback), until Friday, April 26, 2019.
A survey summary report will be provided to trustees, including all comments submitted along with information from the feedback sessions, email comments and delegation presentations at the committee meetings. This information will also be posted to this page.
