Kindergarten Registration

Priority Registration is between Nov- Jan 31

Kindergarten registration is from November to the last weekday of January for children who will begin school the following September.

The Vancouver School Board offers a wide range of educational options for all different types of learners in addition to excellent neighbourhood English language schools.

We also offer programs of choice that include French Immersion, Early Mandarin Bilingual, Indigenous Focus, Montessori or Fine Arts.

So how do I register?

Register at your Catchment School or at DRPC

The first step for everyone is to register with your neighbourhood English catchment school – regardless of whether you plan to send your child there.

You can locate where your neighbourhood English catchment school is by going to

If your child was born outside of Canada, you will need to go to the VSB District Reception and Placement Centre (DRPC) and complete the initial registration there.

If your child was born in Canada,
download the school registration form.
Complete the form and bring the necessary documents, along with your child, to your neigbourhood English catchment school.

NOTE: Some English catchment schools do not have space for all the catchment students. In these cases there will be a draw for student placement in the first several months of the new year and the school will contact you. Find out more by reading our Frequently Asked Questions.

I want to apply for a choice program.

Register for Choice Program Online

Parents must register at their neighbourhood English catchment school from November to end of January before applying for choice programsStarting January 15th, 2018   and  until  the first week in February, you can apply to attend a choice program through our online application process

A draw is used to determine student placements. By late February you should hear back whether you have a space in the school or program. You will be given a formal offer of a space in a kindergarten choice program or an indication of where you are on the program waitlist.

If you have not heard back by late February, please contact the principal of your neighborhood English catchment school and they will help you find out about your child’s status.

What if I want to apply to a school in another catchment area?

If you are interested in having your child attend an English school that is not your catchment school, then you should apply through the cross-boundary application process. Applications will be accepted at the requested school beginning February 1, 2018. The cross-boundary application deadline is February 28, 2018. Cross-boundary applications will only be considered once all catchment students have been accommodated.  More information.
