The health, safety and well-being of students and staff continues to be a top priority for the Vancouver School District.

On the evening of September 27, 2021, at the monthly Board meeting, the trustees of the Vancouver School Board voted to extend the mask mandate to students in kindergarten to Grade 3. This extension will begin Monday October 4, 2021. The extended mask mandate is an additional layer of protection as schools in the District continue to implement different ways to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Currently students from kindergarten to Grade 3 are strongly encouraged to wear masks in schools. Anecdotal reports from schools show majority of these primary students are wearing masks, and keeping them on.

Staff will continue to support student mask wearing through positive and inclusive approaches. Moving forward, staff will work with students to foster proper mask usage including how to wear, take off and store masks.

As always, students will not be required to wear a mask if they do not tolerate it for health or behavioural reasons. A full list of exemptions can be found on govsb.ca/covid.  For up to date COVID information, please visit the District’s website.
