This Thursday, members of the community and anyone interested in the district's new Aboriginal Focus School are invited to come out to MacDonald Elementary at 6:30 PM. During the forum, participants will have a chance to learn about the goals and nature of the new school.

The Aboriginal Focus School will serve Kindergarten to Grade 3. The school's guiding principles include a strong and passionate leadership and governance that are community derived and parent centred, a safe and welcoming environment for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children and families as well as high BC educational standards.

The school will provide a wide-range of programming for children and families and will be staffed by educators knowledgeable about Aboriginal worldviews and cultural practices. The curriculum will reflect the history and values of Aboriginal people with a range of themes including fine arts and the environment.

Those parents interested in enrolling a child in kindergarten, grade one, grade two or grade three in the program, should complete a registration form. Registration must be done by May 31, 2012. You can download and fill out a registration form or register at your closest Neighbourhood School.
