For the past two years, roughly 30 David Thompson students have implemented a wide range of environmental achievements including managing (and expanding) the school's compost system, running school-wide green awareness campaigns and mentoring elementary students by demonstrating the importance of sustainability.
The group soon learned about a Recycle for Education grant from Staples and decided to apply. With the support of team members, teachers, their administrators and South Vancouver Neighbourhood House staff, the team was able to pull together an impressive application. Thanks to this hard work, David Thompson Secondary was one of 20 schools to win a $25,000 computer lab.
Team members are considering using the money to purchase a bunch of iPads to be used in an "outdoor classroom" in the school's soon to be created market garden and outdoor amphitheatre.
Green Team students say they're particularly thankful for the support and mentorship of Chelan Wallace of South Vancouver Neighbourhood House.
