Lord Byng Project 3B Immigrant Drama Night Audition is a Big Success

This December wasn't just a time for presents, it was also an exciting time for theatrical auditions. This winter, 65 enthusiastic and creative immigrant students from Lord Byng, Britannia, Kitsilano, Point Grey, Prince of Wales, University Hill and Magee and friends from Adult Education Center, Capilano and Langara College strutted their "acting stuff" in two drama auditions held at Lord Byng Secondary School and at Kerrisdale Community Center.

They were auditioning for dance and theatrical performances that would showcase their immigrant stories and the personal journeys of newcomers. The Byng Project 3B Drama Night is scheduled for public performance at the Lord Byng Auditorium on May 24, 2012 at 7:30pm.

Some students came to their auditions with admirable performance credentials while others made up for their lack of experience with a ton of enthusiasm.

3B Drama

The Lord Byng Project 3B Drama Night is sponsored by the VSB SWIS Program in partnership with S.U.C.C.E.S.S, Arts Plus (S.S.O.P) and the KidSafe Program at the VSB. The principal aim of the production is to use drama as an interactive medium to engage  immigrant students and parents in schools and increase public awareness on the developing trends and rising needs of immigrant students and families in Vancouver.

Organizers also hope the 3B production will help with fundraising for Kidsafe, which provides much needed child care services to 400 "most needy and vulnerable" students and families in the six inner city schools in the district. Finally, the project is aimed at helping students share their struggles and challenges as well as celebrate the success of new immigrant students and parents in their new life in Canada.
