Drive by Kitchener Elementary and you'll get an opportunity to see the building of a brand new replacement school. The new building will be a hybrid combination of old and new with the retention of the 1914 heritage school building relocated to the corner of King Edward & Collingwood.
After months of work and years of planning, VSB staff and consultants have now completed most of the concrete structure of Kitchener. The construction remains on schedule (weather dependent) for a fall 2012 opening of the new school.
The new school will combine elements of the old upgraded wood-frame building. Once completed, it will have space for 60 full-day kindergarten spaces and 450 grade 1-7 students. In addition to the typical school environment, the "new" Kitchener will also house a Neighbourhood Learning Centre and Early Childhood Education initiatives. It's an exciting time for the Kitchener Elementary community.
