This past December, the Lord Roberts Elementary Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) received an early Christmas present. Urban Fare came forward with a donation of $1000 per downtown store ($4000 total) to help build a new playground at the West End school.
For over a year parents have been working on fundraising for a new playground, hosting bake sales, applying for small grants, and soliciting donations.
"We would like to build the playground as soon as possible to increase the play opportunities for the growing number of children at Lord Roberts," says Sara Phillips, Lord Roberts PAC member. "Some of the older playground equipment has been removed for safety reasons. The physical outdoor play space is minimal for the amount of children attending the school."
The donation helps put the school on track for a new playground, but Phillips says more fundraising is needed to reach their target.
