Vancouver High School Students Explore Training and Career Options In Journey into the Trades event at John Oliver

On Friday, 24 January, Grade 10 students from a variety of Vancouver secondary schools had an opportunity to peruse a wealth of resources and chat with representatives from a huge selection of trades, training organizations and post-secondary institutions at the "Yes 2 IT" Journey into the Trades event.

The Vancouver School Board, in partnership with the Industry Training Authority (ITA), organized the event, which hosted representatives from BCIT, ACCESS Trades BC, VCC, WorkSafe BC, as well as automotive, construction, piping, plumbing, trowel trades, drafting, aerospace, transportation, mining and oil resources, maritime, horticulture and agriculture and tourism and hospitality sectors.

The morning event included a panel discussion with 11 former VSB graduates (one via Skype from Alberta) who are now accomplished trades people in various fields. They shared their experiences and advice about the opportunities, rewards and challenges involved in these careers.
