Collingwood Elementary Students Treasure Autograph from Mayor Robertson

On May 8, 2014, Grade 3 students of Collingwood Neighbourhood Elementary School visited with Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson at the Collingwood Neighbourhood House. The Mayor, staff of city hall and city firefighters arrived in their mobile fire command unit and created a Pop Up City Hall for students to learn more about the municipal government and municipal agencies.

During their hour long visit, students participated in a scavenger hunt where they had an opportunity to ask questions of city hall staff.  Clipboards in hand, students learned about the services Vancouver City Hall provides such as how to register a dog and how to apply to vote. Invited only two days prior to the event, Collingwood Grade 2/3 teacher Tamara Dean recognised the valuable learning opportunity for her students and seized the moment.

Beaming with excitement, students returned to their classrooms after their hour long visit, each with an autograph from Mayor Robertson, a treasured memento of an amazing day.
