A parent led initiative called 'Dickens for Dawn' was held in memory of Dawn, an eight year old Charles Dickens Elementary student who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year. Principal Anna Maria Niccoli-Mullett says students, parents and staff of Charles Dickens Elementary are pleased to announce the success of the campaign, which raised $17,000 for BC Children's Hospital Foundation. 

The money was raised through community donations as well as through a book sale. Ultimately their successful campaign led to Dickens being awarded first place for fundraising at BC Children's Hospital Child Run 2014.

Over two hundred students, parents and staff from Dickens participated in the 29th annual Child Run walk which was held on June 1, 2014.  The big showing earned Dickens the added recognition of second most participants in the run.
