Earlier this school year, Grade 11 Sophie Yamauchi wrote a very impressive essay. Her essay described the creative green initiatives taking place at Windermere including the C3 (Climate Change Conference), the school's participation in Commercial Drive's Earth Day Parade and Celebration and other school recycling initiatives. Her winning entry impressed the powers that be at Staples, propelling Windermere past hundreds of other entries from across Canada and winning her school $25,000 worth of Mac Books.
On October 17, Yamauchi and dozens of other Windermere Leadership students flocked down to their auditorium to accept a Mac Book cart from Carol Wenlock, the store manager of a nearby Staples store. On hand were both her classmates, teachers and Windermere administrators.
The new portable computer lab grant came from Staple's Recycle for Education program.
