Students from Take a Hike Program at John Oliver Secondary recently returned from two fall backcountry trips. The Grade 11/12 class went for a ten day backpacking trip to Tenquille Lake just north of the Pemberton Valley where they got to see spectacular views of the Coastal Mountains from the top of Mount McCleod and Finch Ridge.
Despite numerous days of pouring rain and heavy snow, program staff say they still saw plenty of huge grins on the students' faces.
Meanwhile, Take a Hike's Grade 10/11 class took to the high seas with a sea kayaking adventure for three days spent paddling up Indian Arm. After a bit of rain on the first afternoon, they also got some great views of the surrounding hills and Granite Falls at the north end of the arm.
"Overall, both trips were a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all!" said Meghan McCann, an adventure-based Learning Specialist with the program.
